Skaters Glide to Top Places

YOUNG skaters from Olympia Figure Skating Club were at the East Kilbride Ice Rink to show off the vast array of prizes they have collected in a trophy-laden six months.

Coached by Leanne Mullen and Lorraine Allison, the skaters have competed at events across the UK and proudly presented the sparkling array of trophies won.
 
The year started with outstanding results at the British Championship in Nottingham, as three girls finished in the top five at Novice Ladies’ level. Taylor Ronald was crowned British champion with Sarah Rodgers third and Lana Bagen finishing fifth.
 
Next up was the Magnum Open in Irvine which resulted in the following podium places for club members: level one ladies aged 12 years and over saw Sarah Connelly finish third. Level one men saw Max Potter claim first prize. Level six ladies saw Aimee Goldie finish third, while in the level eight ladies Sarah Wilkie claimed top spot ahead of Gemma Fergusson.
 
Following the success in Irvine, the club travelled to Ayr for the Kyle Open which resulted in the following podium places: level one ladies aged 11 years saw Kirsty Miller claim third place. level one ladies 11 years and over saw Celine Robertson also claim third. Level one men was won by Max Potter. Level three ladies saw Ashley Sweeney finish third. Level five Ladies ended with a third place for Melissa Riach. Level seven ladies saw Molly Potter take third place. Level eight ladies ended with the same outcome as the event in Irvine as Sarah Wilkie and Gemma Fergusson took first and second again.
Next up was the Deeside Open in Wales which resulted in first place for Max Potter in the level one men’s event, second place for Ashley Sweeney in the level three ladies, second for Lana Bagan in the level nine ladies’ event and second place for Taylor Ronald in the level 10 ladies’ section.
 
Congratulations were in order for Lisa Miller, Kristin Ronald, Catherine Sweeney, Erin Treanor, Nikki Miller, Molly Mitchell Knight, Trevyn Ronald, Mirren Sarah Kelly, Samantha Sweeney and Carina Howie who also put on fabulous performances at these competitions.
Other achievements throughout the year came from young Molly Mitchell Knight who was awarded the Spirit Award at the Magnum Open by the judges for the skater showing the most spirit in their performance.
 
More success was achieved by Lana Bagen and Taylor Ronald who were part of the Great Britain teams.
